Bio of José Lopez-Vives, LLMSW
(he/him)

José S. Lopez, LLMSW, MS., received his Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Philosophy from Western Michigan University and a Master's in Social Work from the University of Southern California (USC) with a specialization in Mental Health and Military Social Work.

 

José is a Lieutenant in the United States Army and currently serves as an Instructor for the Michigan Officer Candidate School (OCS). José is a combat Veteran who was deployed twice during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). He has received numerous awards and recognitions during his 20-year Army Career.

 

His experience includes work with children, adolescents, adults, and families in a variety of settings including treatments facilities for male juveniles ages 12 to 21, Easter Seals of Michigan and Community Mental Health Facilities. José worked for the State of Michigan as a Child Protective Services Specialist for seven years and has experience working with high-risk families and individuals, as well as substance abuse, family therapy, and youth services. José has experience conducting crisis intervention groups, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and he is also certified to proctor Smart Recovery groups for those struggling with substance abuse. José is also finishing his Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) certificate.

 

José is fluent in both Spanish and English.
